FXB Clinical Practice

FXB Center’s clinical program has been a leader in HIV care since the mid-1980s, when it was based at the Children’s Hospital of New Jersey and cared for 50 children who were infected with a virus not yet identified as HIV. The FXB Center’s client population of people with HIV increased, mirroring the HIV epidemic in the United States. It then fell as combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) medications were routinely used to reduce perinatal transmission of HIV. Much has changed in 40 years. Today, the FXB Center’s clinical program meets the healthcare and social service needs of approximately 150 families with HIV through the provision of interprofessional, comprehensive HIV services that address care across the HIV care continuum.

Clinical Practice Approach

We deliver client and family-centered care by valuing our relationship with the community, working to eliminate health disparities by promoting self-care and shared decision-making, and supporting clients and families navigating complex social and healthcare contexts. We are advanced practice nurses, nurses, social workers, registered dieticians, outreach team, and case managers who provide evidence-based practice health care, coordinated medical case management services, community outreach, and education for our clients and families. Continuous quality improvement is emphasized in all that we do.

The FXB Clinical Practice provides:

  • Community-based, family-centered, comprehensive, and coordinated health care HIV testing and care to infants and children who are HIV-exposed
  • Family-centered HIV primary medical care and social services to infants, children, adolescents, young adults, and adults with HIV infection
  • HIV care to LGBTQIA populations
  • Medical Case management services
  • Home visits for treatment adherence and supportive care
  • Community outreach and case management services
  • Psycho-social support
  • On-site Psychiatry and Mental Health Counseling Services
  • Medical Nutrition Therapy
  • Access to Adolescent and Adult Clinical Trials through Rutgers ID Practice
